Privacy policy

Numbox does not ask you to create an account, so we never collect a name, a postal address, or payment details. Using a shared number requires nothing more than opening a country page in your browser. When you do, our servers record the visit itself: the page requested, your IP address, and the browser and device type you used, in the same way most websites log traffic.

If you write to us — by email or through the contact page — we keep that message and the address it came from so we can reply. We do not ask for extra personal details to answer a question about a missing SMS or a number that stopped working.

Every phone number on Numbox is shared, and so is the inbox that shows its SMS. Anyone who opens the same number page can read the same messages you can, including a verification code sent to you a minute earlier. We do not check who is looking, and we do not ask a visitor to prove the number is theirs before showing the inbox — there is no "theirs" to prove, since a shared number does not belong to any one person.

Because the inbox is shared, we do not delete a message on request. Removing it for one visitor would remove it for everyone still relying on that same code, and the message clears on its own once the number's history rotates out. Do not send a shared number to anything you would mind a stranger reading, and do not treat what lands on it as private correspondence.

Our servers keep standard access logs — IP address, timestamp, the page requested, and browser user agent — for a limited period, mainly to keep the site running and to catch abuse of the number pool. These logs are not published and are not matched against the messages that pass through a number.

We set a small number of cookies: one to remember your light-or-dark theme choice, and a couple that keep basic site functions working. None of them build an advertising profile. You can block or clear cookies in your browser settings at any time; the country and service pages will still load, though your theme choice will reset to default.

We run aggregated traffic analytics to see which country and service pages get used, how many visitors load a number in a given hour, and where a page returns an error. This tells us where to add numbers next and which page needs fixing. It reports totals and trends, not individual visitors, and we do not link an analytics record back to a specific phone number or SMS.

Once you follow that link you are on a separate site with its own privacy policy — we do not pass your email, logs, or cookies to it or to any other third party, and we do not sell the data described on this page.
